                                                    Weekly Topic

TOPIC:

Caretaking~

Some of us are more familiar with pain, problems, and crises than we are with patience, peace, and joy. Ironically, many of us were drawn to crises even before our pain began, spending time rushing here and there, reacting to this crisis and that one. Much of our time may have been spent on fixing other people's problems, thereby overextending ourselves.
Chronic pain provides lessons in working out our problems and increasing our coping skills. We embark on a path of trial and error, to find what works best for us in meeting the challenges that life gives. Along the way we can ask, " Is this the best thing to do? Is this what I really want? "
It is not selfish to ask," Is this good for me?" We can expect fewer crisis when we stop contributing to them. We can stop doinng what we know is detrimental to our wellbeing. Finding the balance between taking care of ourselves and sharing time and resources with others is fundamental to our health.

FOR TODAY: It is time to change patterns if I find myself falling into the trap of trauma and crisis again and again.

" WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN "

A devastating problem which is usually a result of an injury or complex medical problem, in which patients suffer from continuous, relentless pain, often associated with serious emotional, social and economic distress.

Unlike other medical syndromes, usually conventional treatments are not helpful and in some cases, exacerbate pain. Healthcare professionals often avoid dealing with or managing these patients.

A promise from me to you, I will do what I can to try to help. But you have to take the first step and believe me I know how hard that first step can be.

I have had two injuries and I have had chronic pain for years. I have had to fight for any help I could get, I was injured on the job and it felt like I lost my name and became a number. It seemed like no one cared, but I had a good Doctor that said he would do everything he could to help me, if I would do my part. So with his help I now live life with more quality than I did before.

I get up everyday, and do something, it don't have to be allot just do something. I have a routine and I do my best to stick to that routine. But there are day's where the flare up's are just to bad and I have to take it easy.

Please e-mail or come to a support group soon. Thank You

What do you have planned today, do everything in your power to keep that plan. If you need to take a couple extra breaks take them. The main thing is you made a plan for today, try not to let the pain have any power over that plan.

It don't have to be something big, some times the small things are just as great.
